My sister went to China for a semester of school last year and she had to have a visa and she also had to get a whole list of shots since their country has different types of diseases. I’m not too sure of anything else that she had to have to go over there. I know they will spend like 2 hours or more going through customs.

It depends on your nationality. People from South East Asian Countries are allowed to visit each other countries without the need for VISA

Yes, he will need a visa to go to Hong Kong. I live in Chicago, IL, USA and I had to apply for a visa to go there and China two years ago.

YES definitely for China. And you have to be very specific on your Visa…the Chinese government will turn you down.
There are also Customs in between Hong Kong and mainland China…so if he wants to travel to, say, Guanzhou or Shenzen just for fun (and cheap awesome stuff), he will have to add that to his Visa and go through customs through HK and mainland.

But the Chinese government LOVES Americans. I’m American and if you go into mainland China, people will be mesmerized by you. Some people find it uncomfortable but it’s harmless. They will even practice their English with you if you let them :) It’s a great experience…I love China!

Hong-Kong (Special Administrative Area, Not China!!!)
ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS: A passport with a minimum of one-month validity after the period of intended stay, adequate funds to cover stay without working and evidence of onward/return transportation are required. Because many neighboring areas require six months validity remaining on the passport, U.S. citizens planning travel beyond Hong Kong should ensure that their passports are valid for at least six months from the date of their proposed entry into such areas. A VISA IS NOT REQUIRED for tourist visits of up to 90 days by U.S. citizens. Visas are required to work or study in Hong Kong.

    Philippines
ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS: U.S. citizens may enter the Philippines without a visa upon presentation of their U.S. passport, valid for at least six months after the date of entry into the Philippines, and a return ticket to the United States or an onward ticket to another country. Upon arrival immigration authorities will annotate your passport with an entry visa valid for 21 days. If you plan to stay longer than 21 days you must apply for an extension at the Philippine Bureau of Immigration and Deportation’s main office at Magallanes Drive; Intramuros, Manila, Philippines or at any of its provincial offices at
